Corporations Ahead of Their Sustainability Goals

Both automaker Ford and outdoor apparel company Timberland have not only reached but beaten their environmental goals ahead of schedule, seeing savings and improvements two years early.

Ford had been working on water reduction since 2009 and is now manufacturing cars with 30% less water globally. The corporation is quick to make plans moving forward by "further [cutting] water use by another 2 percent this year and [setting] new long-term goals." Ford is working closely and diligently with suppliers to reduce its overall environmental impact. Perhaps this partly attributes to their number one spot on Interbrand's Best Global Green Brands list.

For Timberland Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and renewable energy was a focus. In 2007 sustainability targets were set with a goal to achieve specific percentages in 2015 for each category and by the end of 2013 the company had exceeded their target numbers. GHG emissions were reduced 53% (in comparison to the 50% mark they were aiming for) and clean renewable energy was increased by 31.4% (up 1.4% over intended goal).Transitioning to "a higher use of renewable energy sources in its European headquarters as well as in its global distribution centers" helped Timberland reach its goals.

We love to hear sustainable success stories like this and seeing progress for a greener future being made! Thank you Ford and Timberland for your green efforts!!
