The good kind of blues: Cotton Inc.'s 'Blue Jeans Go Green'

Blue Jeans Go Green, a denim recycling program created by Cotton Incorporated, is successfully making an impression among denim consumers - more than one million pieces of denim have been collected since its inception in 2006, preventing 600 tons of textile waste from entering landfills!

All of the denim that is collected throughout the U.S. from various drop-off sites, drives, and mail-ins for the Blue Jeans Go Green recycling program is converted into denim insulation. Bonded Logic Inc. (headquartered in Arizona) manufactures the safe and natural thermal insulation product, dubbed UltraTouch Denim Insulation. Cotton Inc. has partnered with several organizations, celebrity ambassadors, and collegiate institutions to garner awareness and support of this eco-friendly green initiative around textile waste diversion. A portion of UltraTouch Denim Insulation, "up to 250,000 square feet, is distributed to Habitat for Humanity affiliates and civic buildings around the country." Recently in May, Sheryl Crow helped rebuild communities in New Orleans during a Habitat for Humanity Build-A-Thon with Cotton Inc.'s Blue Jeans Go Green recycling program. All of the homes built during the ten day event were insulated with UltraTouch Denim Insulation.

"According to Cotton Incorporated's Lifestyle Monitor Survey, almost 9 in 10 consumers try to do something with their jeans when they no longer plan to wear them, including donating them (44%), giving them away (13%), and repurposing them (10%). The average consumer owns seven pairs of jeans, so there is a lot of potential continued success for the program in the future." - Cotton Inc. Press Room
