Levi's New Green Jean Headquarters

"Use of the recycled denim...will be a point of pride that our walls will be rich in the fabric of San Francisco history."
- Dr. Gloria C. Duffy, CEO & President of The Commonwealth Club of California

Our hearts smiled upon stumbling across this eco-news and we knew we had to further acknowledge its greatness by selecting it as the content for this week's blog post!

Iconic San Francisco jean brand Levi's will soon be moving their headquarters into a historic building along the embarcadero which is currently undergoing an impressive green retrofit. The structure will incorporate over 8,000 pairs of old Levi's jeans for insulation which will provide toxin-free, thermal efficient, and sound absorbing benefits. Denim insulation also plays an important role in waste prevention as this sustainable design choice diverts the discarded cotton duds from entering the landfill and extends the life cycle of the garment. Now that's what we call sustainable fashion!

In addition, original reclaimed wood paneling, a rooftop garden with native plants, "LED light fixtures, Energy Star rated appliances, and a ventilation system that [uses] Bay air for cooling" will be exciting new features. The redesign will be led by a team of select engineers and architects of which The Commonwealth Club of California has carefully selected, following their recent purchase of the historic 110 Embarcadero building. We can't wait to see the beautiful results after the construction is complete!
